MIG Welding (Metal Inert Gas)
Also known as Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), MIG welding is a fast, versatile technique that uses a continuously fed wire, acting as both electrode and filler. A shielding gas - typically argon or CO₂ - protects the weld pool from contamination.
Best suited for:
- High-volume production
- Structural steel, stainless steel, and aluminium
- Automotive, construction, and heavy machinery applications
MIG welding is known for its efficiency, making it ideal for larger or time-sensitive projects. It’s also easier to master than other methods, allowing for consistent results even under tight deadlines. While it may not offer the same level of finesse as TIG welding, its speed and strength make it a go-to for many industrial applications.
TIG Welding (Tungsten Inert Gas)
TIG welding, or Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), is the preferred method when precision and finish are paramount. Using a non-consumable tungsten electrode and a separate filler rod, it produces clean, detailed welds with minimal spatter and excellent control.
Best suited for:
- Fine, detailed, or visible welds
- Thin materials like stainless steel, aluminium, and magnesium
- Aerospace, motorsport, and artistic fabrication
TIG welding offers unmatched precision and aesthetic quality. It’s ideal for projects where the weld appearance is as important as its strength. However, it is slower and requires a higher skill level, making it better suited to specialised or low-volume applications.
Laser Welding
Laser welding uses a focused, high-energy beam to fuse materials with pinpoint accuracy. With minimal heat distortion and extremely narrow weld seams, it’s a highly controlled and efficient method—especially valuable in delicate or high-spec work.
Best suited for:
- Electronics and medical components
- Aerospace and high-precision fabrication
- Thin materials where accuracy is critical
Laser welding can be fully automated, making it ideal for consistent, repeatable results in high-volume production. While it does require specialised equipment and is typically used for thinner materials, its speed and precision are unmatched.
